Big Majors Spot

Saturday, June 19, 2010

On the way to Staniel Cay, we anchor for the night at Big Majors Spot, a small island with another unusual wildlife feature, swimming pigs.  Most of the islands here are called Cays (pronounced Keys).  This island is called big Majors Spot (there is also a Little Majors Spot, nearby) on the charts with no explanation.

Katy goes down to set the anchor.  (click on any picture to enlarge)

As we take the dinghy over to the beach, we are greeted by a hungry sow who swims right up to the boat.

I think she knows whats in the bag.

It turns out she didn't like the bell pepper.

But she loved the apples...

and the carrots were a hit...

There were others, but they were not as gregarious....

We saw 4 pigs in all, there may have been others as it was a fairly large island.  I understand they have a pig roast over on Staniel Cay every fourth of July.
